Patient top contender Joseph Benavidez unsure if WEC title shot is next

This past weekend’s WEC 47 event appeared it’d perfectly set up the next bantamweight title fight when champ Brian Bowles met Dominick Cruz in the headliner and top contenders Miguel Torres and Joseph Benavidez clashed in the co-headliner.

And though Cruz and Benavidez pulled off a pair of upsets, Benavidez today told MMAjunkie.com Radio he’s unsure if he’ll get the next title shot with the newly crowned champ.

But he won’t lose sleep either way. Patience truly is a virtue, Benavidez said.



UFC lightweight Evan Dunham on BJJ black belt and UFC 115 training for Tyson Griffin

After 10 years of study, Evan Dunham is now a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt.

Wellington “Megaton” Dias, a Phoenix, Ariz.-based fourth-degree black belt under Royler and Rolker Gracie, surprised the UFC lightweight with the belt late last month at an affiliate school in Eugene, Ore., where Dunham built his mixed-martial-arts career.

The lightweight up-and-comer said the belt is nice but that it’s not the end of the road in his evolution as a competitor.
