‘Bellator Featherweight Grand Prix Countdown,’ No. 6: Backstage shenanigans and picking fights

The Forum in Inglewood, Calif., played host to one of the biggest shows in Bellator history as the organization’s lightweight grand prix took center stage at Bellator 228.

The event saw the final four matchups from the opening round of the 16-man, $1 million tournament as defending featherweight champion Patricio Freire, undefeated contender A.J. McKee, former bantamweight champ Darrion Caldwell, and veteran contender Daniel Weichel each punched his ticket to the quarterfinals.

From fight week haircuts to backstage slanging matches, the lead-up to fight night was an eventful one. After the fights, the next set of tournament matchups was confirmed as the eight qualifiers from the opening round set the bracket for the quarterfinal stages and beyond in the post-fight selection show.

The Bellator cameras were there to capture it all, and you can check out the full behind-the-scenes recap of the event in the video above.
