Joanna Gains Just One Spot In Official UFC Rankings

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is just a few days removed from its UFC Fight Night 161: “Joanna vs. Waterson” mixed martial arts (MMA) event, which took place last Sat. night (Oct. 12, 2019) on ESPN+ from inside Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.

In the “Sunshine State” headliner, former women’s strawweight champion, Joanna Jedrzejczyk, captured a convincing decision win over Top 10 contender Michelle Waterson, but wasn’t able to gain much traction on the 115-pound leaderboard.

“Karate Hottie,” meanwhile, lost no ground. Similarly, a three-round nod over Kron Gracie did little for featherweight veteran Cub Swanson, though Amanda Ribas was able to crack the Top 15 by turning away Mackenzie Dern.

Rankings were generated by a voting panel made up of media members. The media members were asked to vote for who they feel are the top fighters in the UFC by weight-class and pound-for-pound. A fighter is only eligible to be voted on if they are in active status in the UFC. A fighter can appear in more than one weight division at a time. The champion and interim champion are considered to be in the top positions of their respective divisions and therefore are not eligible for voting by weight-class. However, the champions can be voted on for the pound-for-pound rankings.
