New Rankings! Rodriguez, Barber On The Move

Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was forced to overhaul its official fighter rankings in the wake of the UFC on ESPN 6 mixed martial arts (MMA) event last Fri. (Oct. 18, 2019) inside TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.

Already sitting pretty at No. 4, Dominick Reyes didn’t gain any ground at light heavyweight by smashing Chris Weidman; however, “All American” did lose his place at 185 pounds and did not do enough to land a spot in his new (and perhaps temporary) division.

In the UFC Boston featherweight co-main event, Yair Rodriguez survived a rough third round to outlast Jeremy Stephens, which brought “Pantera” up to No. 8 and sent the hard-hitting “Lil Heathen” down to No. 9.

Maycee Barber cracked the Top 10 by putting down Gillian Robertson. In fact, the loss sent “The Savage” out of the rankings altogether and made room for flyweight attraction Paige VanZant, who continues to be heckled by “The Future.”

Here’s how the rankings work, courtesy of UFC.com:

Rankings were generated by a voting panel made up of media members. The media members were asked to vote for who they feel are the top fighters in the UFC by weight-class and pound-for-pound. A fighter is only eligible to be voted on if they are in active status in the UFC. A fighter can appear in more than one weight division at a time. The champion and interim champion are considered to be in the top positions of their respective divisions and therefore are not eligible for voting by weight-class. However, the champions can be voted on for the pound-for-pound rankings.

Take a look at what the latest rankings field looks like courtesy of UFC.com. Note: (+/- = movement in rankings, T = tie, *NR = Not previously ranked).
