UFC 244 free fight: Jorge Masvidal hands ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone his first welterweight loss

Jorge Masvidal’s best welterweight wins have come this year, but the UFC 244 headliner also showed brilliance in a matchup against Donald Cerrone at UFC on FOX 23 in January 2017.

Masvidal (34-13 MMA, 11-6 UFC), who meets Nate Diaz (20-11 MMA, 15-9 UFC) in the biggest fight of his career on Nov. 2 at Madison Square Garden in New York, had been rather inconsistent since moving up to 170 pounds more than four years ago. He’s hit his stride of late, though, scoring back-to-back knockouts of Ben Askren and Darren Till to set up the bout with Diaz.

He did put in some memorable work prior to those key wins, though, and one of them came against “Cowboy,” who was on an undefeated run after changing weight classes. It was a one-sided beatdown at UFC on FOX 23 in Denver, with “Gamebred” nearly finishing Cerrone at the end of the first round, only to finish the job in devastating fashion just 60 seconds into the second frame.

Relive that standout performance by Masvidal, who looks to become the inaugural “BMF” champion at UFC 244.
