Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President, Dana White, did a compete 180 on former welterweight prospect, Sage Northcutt. At first, he was a “legit” prospect who made his doubters “shut the hell up,” then he became a “kid” who needed to retire before getting seriously hurt.

What changed?

While the details behind his UFC release are still a bit fuzzy, it should be noted that Northcutt left the promotion on a three-fight winning streak, including a blistering knockout win over Zak Ottow at UFC Fight Night 133.

Not bad for a fighter who was “young and needed some work.”

But now that White has a critical take on the future of Northcutt, some of those jackasses on social media — who masquerade as mixed martial arts (MMA) fans — are jumping on the negativity bandwagon and shitting all over the “Super” striker.

Sorry, he’s not listening.

“I know that a lot of them that say anything negative don’t really understand, unless they’ve been in the footsteps (I’ve had to take), and having gone through an injury of that extent, or had to make the decisions I had to make,” Northcutt told MMA Fighting. “I don’t really listen to any of that. I’m just thinking about all the people that are out there supporting me, my friends and everybody that are trying to give me support and help lift me up.”

Northcutt signed with ONE Championship after parting ways with UFC and was expected to reestablish himself as a legitimate threat at 170 pounds. Unfortunately, a matchmaking blunder left him paired off against veteran savage Cosmo Alexandre, a former kickboxing champion with 21 knockouts.

The result was a broken face.

Fortunately for Northcutt, he’s still just 23 years old, so there is plenty of time to get himself back into the fight game while also continuing to polish his MMA skills. And maybe his peers can do him some favors along the way and stop making statements like this.
