White: Fury ‘Really Is Interested’ In UFC Crossover

Tyson Fury has become one of the most talked about names in combat sports today. The undefeated boxing superstar has not only dominated his own sport, but he’s tested his skill inside the WWE ring and could end up doing the same inside of the Octagon in the near future.

Fury, who is scheduled to rematch Deontay Wilder early next year, has already discussed a potential move over to professional mixed martial arts (MMA). The 31-year-old fighter even went out of his way to ask Conor McGregor to train him before showing some moves in the gym alongside UFC middleweight contender Darren Till.

Considering we live in a time when crossovers and super fights are a thing of the norm fight fans really didn’t know what to think of Fury’s talk. But after UFC president Dana White’s recent interview with 106.7 FM (via MMA Junkie), it’s safe to say Fury means business.

“It’s interesting,” said White. “He and I talked the other day. He really is interested in fighting, so I respect that. We’ll see what happens.”

Fury, who remains undefeated inside of the boxing ring at 29-0-1, doesn’t have any formal MMA experience. However, the towering English boxer is a massive heavyweight with precision striking and unpredictable movement. He may be the best type of fighter to cross over from boxing because his offensive attacks are unorthodox as is.

“Let’s see what happens with his boxing career,” White continued. “He’s got this rematch coming up with Wilder, which is obviously huge and a fun fight for the heavyweight division. You’ve got Ruiz and Joshua fighting this weekend. So, we’ll see how that goes and we’ll see what happens.”

With so much talk about Floyd Mayweather Jr. set to do big business with White and UFC in 2020 it would be nice to bring on Fury as well. After all, WWE was successful in bringing “Gypsy King” over to their sport, so as long as UFC throws enough money at Fury it’s possible he makes the jump.

What do you think, Maniacs? Will we see Fury inside of the Octagon in 2020?
