Midnight Mania! Masvidal Threatens Covington ‘Crucifixion’

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight!

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Welterweight drama probably accounts for roughly half of my Midnight Mania posts as of late. Everyone wants a piece of everyone! Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington’s beef will finally be settled (hopefully) on Saturday night, but Jorge Masvidal and Covington have been trading barbs frequently as well.

The former friends, room mates, and training partners have not held back, but early today, it was Masvidal who referenced their shared history to make Covington look weak. Continuing with his “Street Jesus” theme — or “Street Judas,” if one were to ask Covington — Masvidal ominously tagged his final tweet with “The Crucifixion.”

Given the ever-increasing frequency of insults between the two, a showdown between them is looking more and more likely, even with Masvidal’s admission that he’d prefer money fights to a title shot. If Covington walks away from UFC 245 strapped with gold, don’t be surprised if “Gamebred” is next in line.

Insomnia

We’re just a few hours shy of weigh-ins, so it’s time for ALDO WATCH!

In my opinion, it’s goofy to compare male and female MMA in terms of pound-for-pound lists and Greatest Of All Time positions — they’re almost different sports currently. That said, Nunes has WMMA GOAT status on lock … for now.

Respect to the legend:

Like the Jose Aldo picture above, Mike Perry posted plenty of pictures with his fellow fighters, but this one is my favorite.

Sean O’Malley won nearly 30 grand in a celebrity Fortnite competition (by taking 8th place!) and donated the lot to charity. Good for “Suga Show!”

I take back what I said a couple nights ago, THIS is real humility.

The photos from Ilima-Lei MacFarlane’s pool workouts are always so cool.

Slips, rips, and KO clips

A legend falls … but also this is an excellent idea!

Regardless of Aldo’s iffy weight cut, a Marlon Moraes high kick can sleep just about anyone.

There are a lot of great fights set to take place at UFC 245, but be careful not to forget the return of Matt “The Immortal” Brown.

I don’t believe I’ve ended on an adorable note in a while:

Midnight Music: I have never been a massive Arcade Fire fan, but I still quite like Funeral!

Sleep well Maniacs! More martial arts madness is always on the way.
