John Kavanagh: Conor McGregor ‘the best I’ve seen him’ ahead of UFC 246 return

Conor McGregor’s longtime head coach just placed some lofty expectations on his fighter ahead of his UFC 246 headliner with Donald Cerrone this month.

John Kavanagh, who has been in McGregor’s corner for each of his UFC fights, apparently is impressed with what he’s seen from the former UFC champ during training camp for “Cowboy” at SBG Ireland in Dublin.

It’ll have been more than 15 months since McGregor (21-4 MMA, 9-2 UFC) stepped in the octagon by the time he competes against Cerrone (36-13 MMA, 23-10 UFC) at UFC 246, which takes place Jan. 18 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. According to Kavanagh, McGregor is looking dangerous (via Twitter):

Although Kavanagh put out similar praise for McGregor ahead of his two most recent fights – a boxing match against Floyd Mayweather and a title fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov – there seems to be more reason to believe this time.

McGregor recently posted a photo on social media in which he was looking in stellar condition weeks out from the fight with Cerrone, which will be contested in the welterweight division.

It’s been more than three years since the Irishman got his hand raised in a combat sports setting, though, and ultimately the proof will be in the performance.
