White Casts Doubt On Jones Move To Heavyweight

Longtime Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, has been talking about a potential move up to 265 pounds since 2012, but never found himself in a position to pull the trigger.

And Jones can’t blame anyone but himself.

That’s why UFC President, Dana White, isn’t convinced “Bones” is going to make good on his promise to take over the heavyweight division after defeating Dominick Reyes in the UFC 247 pay-per-view (PPV) main event in March.

“I don’t know about him going to heavyweight, I think he’s comfortable at light heavyweight, and every time that you think there’s not another challenger for Jon Jones, there’s another challenger for Jon Jones,” White told ESPN. “I don’t know, we’ll have to see how this thing plays out. He has to get through Dominick Reyes first before you even start thinking about heavyweight or anything else.”

If Jones (25-1, 1 NC) is able to shut down “The Devastator” in “Sin City,” the promotion is likely to book him against the winner of Jan Blachowicz vs. Corey Anderson, who collide at UFC Rio Rancho next month in New Mexico.

Unless he needs that Reyes rematch.

In addition, the heavyweight title picture is still a bit fuzzy thanks to the pending trilogy between Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier. Their rubber match is expected at some point this spring, but the promotion has yet to put pen to paper (because of this).
