James Krause says he’s fighting at UFC 247 after Antonio Arroyo taken to hospital

UFC welterweight James Krause is stepping in to fight Trevin Giles at UFC 247 on Saturday. Giles’s original opponent Antonio Arroyo was transported to the hospital following Friday’s official morning weigh-in.

Arroyo made weight on Friday morning, but did so in the final 10 minutes of the two-hour weigh-in window. He was later transported to the hospital after cramping up following the weigh-in.

Krause, who said his medicals were up to date, immediately stepped up to keep Giles on the card by moving up to middleweight for the bout.

If Krause makes weight at the UFC 247 ceremonial weigh-in, he is ready to face Giles, who is a hometown Texas fighter.

“This guy was here cornering. James Krause is stepping in and gonna take the fight. He’s actually literally going to weigh in today at the ceremonial weigh-ins,” UFC president Dana White said at the UFC 248 press conference prior to the UFC 247 ceremonial weigh-in. “I know he’s not from Texas, but he’s gonna step in and save this fight for your guy.

“That’s pending he passes all of his medicals and makes weight. What a stud.'”
