Joe Rogan and Dominick Cruz claim judge not paying attention during UFC 247 fight

There was a lot of controversy over the refereeing and judging at UFC 247: Jones vs. Reyes on Saturday in Houston, Texas.

The main event between Jon Jones and Dominick Reyes went the distance. By all accounts, it was a close fight, so it was a little surprising that Jones won a unanimous decision. What was much more surprising to most pundits, however, was that one judge scored the bout 49-46 in Jones’s favor, despite Reyes having outstruck Jones throughout the first three rounds with little to no action taking place on the ground.

That controversy being what it is, earlier in the event, UFC analysts Joe Rogan and Dominick Cruz took note of a judge during the Lauren Murphy vs. Andrea Lee preliminary bout, who they claim was not even watching the fight for a significant amount of time.

“We’re looking at a judge who’s literally not watching the fight. This is insane,” Rogan said.

Cruz commented as well, saying, “Judges don’t even watch. They’re looking down at the floor. Insane. It’s gonna be tough for the fighters tonight to figure out how to win a decision.”

Following the event, UFC president Dana White wasn’t happy with the judging and refereeing in Texas, saying, “We’ve got some work to do down here,” indicating they needed to find a way to help further the officials’s education.
