The two best lightweights in the world, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson, came face-to-face once again earlier today (Fri., Mar. 6, 2020) during UFC 249’s pre-fight press conference (video replay HERE) in Las Vegas.

Of course, Khabib is scheduled to defend his lightweight title against Ferguson at UFC 249 on April 18 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. It will be the fifth time Khabib vs. Ferguson has been booked. The bout has been cancelled in the past due to botched weigh cuts and fluke injuries.

With just over a month left before Khabib and Ferguson finally lock horns inside of the Octagon the two lightweights faced off on stage during UFC 249’s pre-fight presser. Khabib and Ferguson didn’t even come close to touching one another but still had to be separated. Ferguson laid his belt down as a sign of confidence only to have Khabib kick it in anger.

Given the long history of withdrawals and last-second fallouts, UFC already has a plan in place for former UFC champion Conor McGregor to step in for either Khabib or Ferguson if something was to happen before the fight. That is quite a backup plan to say the least, especially considering the bad blood between Khabib and “Notorious.”
