Coronavirus Cancels KSW, Combate Americas Events

As the coronavirus continues to spread around the world, organizations planning large-scale events are being forced to rethink their strategies. That includes the world of mixed martial arts (MMA), which already sent ONE Championship back to the drawing board.

It appears that was just the beginning.

Polish powerhouse Konfrontacja Sztuk Walki (KSW) today canceled its upcoming “Fight Code” event, previously scheduled for March 21 inside Atlas Arena in Lodz, Poland.

“Given a thoughtful consideration to the authorities’ recommendations, we have decided that KSW 53: Fight Code will not take place in the previously planned form,” KSW co-owners Maciej Kawulski and Martin Lewandowski wrote. “All the online ticket expenses will be reimbursed by ebilet.pl accordingly to the form of payment chosen during the order.”

In addition, Combate Americas, the world’s premiere Hispanic combat sports promotion, will be moving a handful of its upcoming events to a television studio beginning in April.

“We put the health and safety of our athletes, fans and staff above all other considerations,” said Combate Americas CEO Campbell McLaren. “Combate Americas’ mission is to bring together people throughout the U.S., Mexico, South America and Spain, and that requires frequent travel to an array of locations, both foreign and domestic. Our live studio version of Combate Americas will continue to deliver mucha más acción.”

As of this writing, UFC has no plans to cancel or postpone any of these events.
