Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion, Frankie Edgar, dropped down to the featherweight division several years back, but was unable to capture the 145-pound crown and has since slipped to No. 6 in the division rankings.

That’s why “The Answer’ is going to make the cut down to bantamweight, a weight class more suited for his 5’6” frame against a “scary” opponent this June, one who will hopefully get him into the championship title race sooner, rather than later.

“I’m going to obviously fight at 135 like I was originally planning to do and try to get in there in June,” Edgar told MMA Junkie. “This might be the new, hot division right now and I can insert myself in this and get some more motivation, I guess – some goals, some guys that are scary to prepare for.”

Edgar (23-8-1) was expected to make his bantamweight debut against Cory Sandhagen at UFC Raleigh back in January; however, an emergency call from promotion matchmakers instead put him into the UFC Busan main event against Chan Sung Jung.

That fight ended in disaster and served as a reminder as to why Edgar was changing weight classes in the first place. No word yet on who “The Answer” will be looking to fight, but you can see what’s happening in the bantamweight Top 5 by clicking here.
