Paul Daley calls for Bellator interim welterweight title fight against Lorenz Larkin

Paul Daley thinks a belt should remain in circulation at 170 pounds.

The British striker would like to see Bellator implement an interim title in the welterweight division in response to champion Douglas Lima moving up to 185 pounds to face Gegard Mousasi for the vacant belt in May.

And if victorious on Friday against Sabah Homasi at Bellator 241, Daley (42-17-2 MMA, 8-4 BMMA) would like to be in discussion to fight for the interim belt he proposes.

“With Lima going up to middleweight, I think they should bring an interim title, that would make it interesting,” Daley told MMA Junkie. “Scott (Coker) said (Lorenz) Larkin is next and I already beat Larkin. So if there is an interim title, and Larkin was supposed to be next for the real title, then a rematch between me and Larkin would make sense for the interim title.

“Thats what I would do I if were the promoter, obviously he’s got differed visions but that’s what I would do.”

Daley said this is an idea he’s floated around in the media, but has had no real talks about it with Bellator.

For now, Daley is just focused on winning on Friday night and he’s more than confident he’ll get the job done against Homasi.

“I’ve fought all the top guys, so it’s the younger, newer guys that I’ll fighting here,” Daley said. “Just so happens that they’re all people that are willing to stand and bang a little bit, whether the fight will play out that way and stand and bang, I don’t think so. But it will be great however long it lasts because obviously, he’s going to get knocked out but it’s going to be entertaining however long it lasts.”
