Raphael Assuncao’s manager says he’ll wait for Cody Garbrandt after UFC on ESPN 8 withdrawal

Raphael Assuncao won’t be fighting at UFC on ESPN 8.

On Friday, Daniel Rubenstein of Ruby Sports & Entertainment, who manages Assuncao (27-7 MMA, 11-4 UFC), announced that his client will wait for originally scheduled opponent Cody Garbrandt to heal up.

This comes after news broke that former UFC bantamweight champion Garbrandt was forced to withdraw from a scheduled clash against Assuncao due to kidney issues. After the news came to light, Garbrandt (11-3 MMA, 6-3 UFC) posted a gruesome image of bloody urine on social media. The image has since been removed.

“Rapha’s gonna wait for Cody to heal up,” Rubenstein wrote in a response tweet on Twitter. As for Assuncao’s return? “Hopefully May,” Rubenstein wrote.

UFC on ESPN 8 originally was scheduled to take place in Columbus, Ohio. However, due to the recent coronavirus outbreak, the event will now take place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. As originally planned, the event will still take place March 28 and will air on ESPN.
