Match 1: Robbie Lawler vs. Rory MacDonald 2 (#1) vs. Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard 2 (#5)

Robbie Lawler vs. Rory MacDonald 2 has been almost cartoonishly unstoppable so far. That’s because No. 64 Dennis Bermudez vs. Matt Grice, No. 32 Chan Sung Jung vs. Dustin Poirier and No. 48 Jim Miller vs. Joe Lauzon 1 all fell by >200-vote margins. In the Elite Eight, which tested the old cliche of being one’s own worst enemy, No. 9-seeded Robbie Lawler vs. Carlos Condit only managed to tie the previous toughest opponent with 39 votes.

Meanwhile, Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard 2 has proven remarkably versatile during its tournament run. After dispatching a three-round grappling battle in No. 60-ranked Diego Sanchez vs. Karo Parisyan, it took a competitive (but-comfortable) 60 /40 percent victory over No. 28-ranked Nick Diaz vs. Paul Daley’s one round of insanity. A seven-vote margin carried it past fellow five-round war No. 21-seeded Israel Adesanya vs. Kelvin Gastelum, leading to a similarly fraught 18-vote win over a similar foe in No. 2-ranked Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson 1.

Five rounds of action, improbable comebacks, facial deformation that would make David Cronenberg retch, and shining testaments to both the depths of human courage and the durability of human skulls. This is a Final Four-worthy battle between two all-time great title fights, and neither one’s stock will suffer no matter the outcome.

To reiterate: spread the word, share socially … do whatever grassroots / viral “Get Out The Vote” campaign needed to ensure your favorite fights advance to the next round. Complaining in the comments section about seeding and whatnot will not impact the results and will just make you look like an unappreciative dick.
