Rousey Addresses Backlash From Recent WWE Comments

Ronda Rousey may be waiting out the rapid COVID-19 pandemic from the comfort of her self-sufficient California home, but that hasn’t stopped the former UFC women’s bantamweight champion from making headlines this week.

This time around, Rousey finds herself in hot water with angry WWE fans after making comments earlier this week about professional wrestling being “fake fights for fun.” Rousey also made it perfectly clear that she feels underappreciated by an “ungrateful” WWE universe.

Whether or not Rousey actually feels betrayed by professional wrestling fans, now probably isn’t the best time to be creating new enemies. The world is practically falling apart around us and if Rousey ever wants to re-enter the WWE mix these comments could come back to haunt her.

Still, the former UFC champion seems to be sticking to her guns, posting the following message to Twitter earlier today defending her comments and her stance on pro wrestling:

“Anyone who is outraged by me calling pro wrestling ‘fake fights for fun’ has never been in a REAL fight. While you all are tip toeing around bruising some pro wrestlers’ huge soft egos – no one is thinking about all of the REAL fighters you’re insulting when pretending pro wrestling is somehow on the same level of realism. Yes, I understand, wrestling 300 days a year for years on end is incredibly tough on the bodu and a difficult profession – but do you know what would happen if you got in 300 REAL fights in a year? You would be dead,” wrote Rousey.

Considering Rousey is already the greatest of all all time she really doesn’t need to prove anything to anybody. But again, “Rowdy” seems to be burning more bridges than she’s creating if she ever wants to make a return to WWE, which would likely welcome her back given her global star power. There is a small chance this is a move by Rousey to play into her WWE heel status before making a return to the ring, but that’s relatively unlikely given the things that have been said.

For now, Rousey will be left to clean up the pieces from her recent comments and defend herself against anyone who disagrees with her outlook. That just so happens to include pro wrestling as a whole and its millions of fans.
