Midnight Mania! Watch ‘El Cucuy’ Endure ‘Weird’ Nasal Swab

Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every quarantined night!

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Tony Ferguson is one of the demonstrable toughest fighters in a sport filled with tough athlete. A great deal of his fighting style involves constantly attacking his opponent and getting in their face, which means that — despite his measures to block and evade — Ferguson eats plenty of strikes, yet he’s never been stopped. To further add to that legacy, Ferguson kicks metal pipes in his spare time, a unique training method that enables him to kick his opponents shins without fear of his own pain.

Finally, however, Ferguson has met an obstacle that forced a real reaction from him: the feared COVID-19 nasal swab.

UFC promised strict safety regulations in their first attempt to return to hosting an event since national shutdown, and they appear to be living up to their word. All fighters must pass the above diagnostic swab, and they’ll also be given a test to check for antibodies, which are present in those who have previously fought off the virus.

We are now just four days away from showtime, and it will be quite interesting to see if any fights are canceled due to a positive test.

Petr Yan would definitely be the guy to stand up and object at Henry Cejudo and Jose Aldo’s wedding.

The UFC 249 poster is surprisingly unique!

Since Ultimate Fighter is apparently coming back “real soon” per Dana White’s Reddit AMA, some highlights seem appropriate!

Add this to the list of bizarre ways one can injure himself training martial arts:

Do we have to stop the Florida jokes now that Las Vegas is on board as well? Shame.

Rafael Cordeiro celebrated 10 years of King’s MMA in Southern California today, and that gym did have a remarkably successful decade with multiple UFC champions in its ranks, like Rafael dos Anjos and Fabricio Werdum.

We arrived in 2008 in Huntington Beach, California, with the idea of implementing our training system. At first it seemed crazy to leave Curitiba, because we were at a training center in one of the noblest neighborhoods and with a number record of students at the time. Today, looking back and seeing what our school has become, I believe God has put me in this place. I didn’t feel at any point the fact that here, I had to teach at the academy of others and the leader position that I had in Curitiba, was limited in two classes that I had to teach in the week. Coming from a schedule that counted on the training of various champions, here in HB, I had to start classes with my wife, my daughters and a black level. Back 12 years ago, we didn’t have this easy way to show where you’re teaching and with that, I spent some time with a very low number of students, being that most of them came from Brazil following the Master. Fernando Bettega, Marlon Mathias, Cris Cyborg, Andre Baggio and Fabricio Werdum, were my first team of Curitiba to set up in HB. Looking at all these efforts that were made to get here, God blessed me greatly with a gym that conquered several titles, and that depends as one of the most conceptable in the world. In all these years, that weren’t just smiles, which I can tell you is, God has always been there. If I believed in my dream and got here, for sure you can. Today, after all these years, we are expanding our mark to the whole world, knowing that martial art will be applied as the main foundation within each unit, and the gyms that today are in Huntington Beach, Anaheim and El Paso, accurately applied to this mentality. This is my dream, and I believe the best is yet to come. At the end of the day, look back and think what legacy you’ll leave. Reminder: Vicente Luque vs. Niko Price 2 is this weekend, and the only possible outcome is violence.

On this day … Floyd Mayweather makes it 43 straight.

When a punch and elbow land at the same time, the elbow usually wins.
