UFC champ Jon Jones makes donation worth 100,000 meals to New Mexico families

Jon Jones is polarizing for many of his outside-the-cage actions. However, that shouldn’t completely overshadow when the UFC light heavyweight champion does good.

Jones, who resides in Albuquerque, N.M., has a history of giving back to the community. His latest contribution directed to The Food Depot will provide 100,000 meals to families in need in the northern part of the state.

The company announced the information over social media on Thursday (via Twitter):

We are so grateful for the support of New Mexico’s own @ufc champion Jon Jones. @JonnyBones made a donation today that will provide 100,000 meals for families in northern New Mexico!

Jones’ donation comes a few months after another one of his public gestures came to light. Two days before Christmas, Jones provided roughly $20,000 worth of winter coats to the homeless in Albuquerque.

“That’s our guy Jon Jones,” Jones publicist wrote on Twitter. “Always giving back.”

It’s a positive sign from Jones, who was recently in legal trouble once again. Jones accepted a plea deal to a DWI charge, and he is currently on one year of supervised probation.

UFC president Dana White said “Bones” would not be punished by the promotion and hopes to have Jones (26-1 MMA, 20-1 UFC) back in the octagon this year. No opponent has been determined, but a rematch with Dominick Reyes and a matchup with contender Jan Blachowicz appear to be the two leading options.
