Florida State Boxing Commission recently released its list of medical suspensions for those fighters competing at the UFC 249: “Ferguson vs. Gaethje” pay-per-view (PPV) event, held last Sat. night (May 9, 2020) inside VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.

After five rounds of punishment, top lightweight contender Tony Ferguson will be forced to serve a 60-day timeout, though I would imagine “El Cucuy” will need longer than that based on this injury. His opponent, Justin Gaethje, emerged without a suspension.

Elsewhere on the card, Jairzinho Rozenstruick was slapped with a two-month sit after getting creamed by heavyweight smashing machine Francis Ngannou. In addition, both UFC 249 co-headliners, Henry Cejudo and Dominick Cruz, were suspended for 45 days.

Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases. In addition, not all injuries are recorded during the post-fight examination and often times surface in follow-up tests.
