Liddell Tangles With Protesters At George Floyd Rally

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion, Chuck Liddell, understands why the country is burning right now and has come out in support of protestors marching for the late George Floyd, who died in police custody last week in Minneapolis.

But one thing Liddell won’t support is the violence and widespread looting that has destroyed so many local businesses, which is why “The Iceman” — like Jon Jones before him — has taken to the streets on a peacekeeping mission in Huntington Beach, California.

“It’s good to see people defending their city,” Liddell said. “It’s terrible. Violence begets violence. Violence doesn’t help anybody. We all know what happened was wrong. Everybody I know thinks it was wrong. It’s hard to watch. This doesn’t help it. Destroying cities, destroying people, hurting people does not do any good for anybody. Hey, protest all you want; just do it peacefully.”

The officer responsible for detaining Floyd prior to his death, Derek Chauvin, has been arrested and charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. Three other officers were also fired and could be facing criminal charges pending investigation.

As for Liddell, he retired in the wake of his knockout loss to Tito Ortiz under the Golden Boy MMA banner in late 2018. The 50 year-old “Iceman” finished with a 21-9 record with 13 knockouts and was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame back in 2009.
