Did Cormier Just Sign Miocic Fight Contract?

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

It seems a long-awaited championship trilogy fight between Heavyweight champion, Stipe Miocic, and former division king, Daniel Cormier has been signed, sealed and soon-to-be delivered.

While some of UFC’s top stars have been announcing their retirement, asking to be released and vacating titles, Miocic is just happy to return to action. The 265-pound champion took to social media yesterday to announce his comeback after taking 10 months off to heal from an eye injury, as well as to serve on the front lines during the COVID-19 pandemic.

And just a day later, Cormier — who was ecstatic with Stipe’s announcement — took to Twitter and posted a picture of his signature on his phone, leading everyone to believe that the bout has been signed on his end.

Both men have one win over the other, so the trilogy bout was a must before either man could move forward. “DC” will retire win, lose or draw, while Miocic, I’m sure, is eager to put Daniel in his rear-view mirror.

While no target date has been announced, the bout could take play sometime in July or early August. Which is music to Francis Ngannou’s ears, as he will face the winner and is itching for some action since this super-fight is no longer in play.
