Dana White shuts down Henry Cejudo fighting for UFC featherweight title: ‘He’s retired’

UFC president Dana White is not on board with Henry Cejudo’s pursuit of a third UFC belt.

Cejudo (16-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC), the former UFC bantamweight and flyweight champion, announced his retirement in May, after stopping Dominick Cruz in the second round at UFC 249.

Since, Cejudo has expressed interest in a possible comeback, but only if he gets to challenge UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski.

A potential fight between the two already has a bit of momentum behind it, with Cejudo previously calling Volkanovski out and the champion responding.

But White doesn’t seem too keen on the idea of Cejudo fighting for the title upon return.

“He’s retired,” White said at the UFC on ESPN 11 post-fight news conference. “I just did another interview where people are asking me about other retired guys, these guys are retired. I’m not even thinking about any of those guys, they’re retired. There are so many kids right now that are here, that want to fight. Those are the people that I’m focused on.”

During the co-main event matchup between featherweights Josh Emmett and Shane Burgos, Cejudo praised both men for their impressive display, in what he called his division.

Fight of the year candidate. Beautiful to see these two artists go to work in MY weight class #UFCVegas3″

After Cejudo relinquished his bantamweight title, the UFC booked Petr Yan vs. Jose Aldo for the vacant title on July 11.

On the same card, Volkanovski will run things back with former champion Max Holloway in the co-main event.
