Perry On Diaz: Salt-And-Pepper Punches Wont Hurt Me

Mike Perry picked up a much-needed win over Mickey Gall last Sat. night (June 27, 2020) at UFC on ESPN 12 inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas Nevada. The victory snapped, “Platinum’s” two-fight skid, giving him his first win since April of 2019.

And he didn’t need a full team in his corner to do it.

Now that’s he’s back in the win column, Perry says every Welterweight is on his hit list. But when broached about the possibility of facing Nate Diaz, “Platinum” was all for it and was quick to give his preview of a potential bout against the Stockton slugger.

“I think he’s a weak, skinny little fuck like Micky Gall. I mean, I respect what he’s done in the sport, he plays the guard game, jiu-jitsu and shit. He thinks he can box with those weak ass little punches that he’s got, little salt and pepper punches,” said Perry on The Ariel Helwani MMA Show.

“He doesn’t stand a chance to hit me hard enough. I’d hit him on the feet the same way Jorge Masvidal did. I’d play his guard, get half guard, sit on top of him and it would look exactly the same the way the Mickey Gall fight looked.

“So if you guys liked that fight, then you will probably like the Nate Diaz fight, too, because he is a little bit more durable and will try to stand there and box back with me. But my power punches will sit him down. Everyone knows he’s durable, but I will bust that eye open the same,” he added.

If it sounds like Perry has some personal issue with Diaz, he doesn’t, he simply feels that all past accomplishments aside, at the end of the day when the two are fighting one-on-one inside the Octagon, there’s only one possible outcome.

“That’s not hate. I am not hating on Nate Diaz, he’s done things in this sport and he’s made money. Good for him. But I always thought I would beat that guy. It’s a simple as that. We are talking about one-on-one in the ring fighting and I win.”

Diaz hasn’t competed since losing to Jorge Masvidal at UFC 244 last November (recap). Talks of a rematch surfaced soon thereafter — and are still somewhat lingering— but Nate has been known to sit out for extended periods of time, something he vowed to do after his most recent loss.

While a fight between Perry and Diaz — as well as the buildup to it — will be entertaining, it’s one that is unlikely to happen anytime soon. That said, perhaps “Platinum” should look here for his next opponent.
