Free Fight! Woodley Chokes Out Till In ‘Big D’

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Former Welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and ex-interim title holder, Colby Covington, will finally get the chance to put hands on one another after years of back-and-forth trash talk this Saturday night (Sat., Sept 19, 2020) at UFC Vegas 11 from inside UFC APEX, In Las Vegas, Nevada.

Before then, let’s take a trip down Memory Lane to see one of “The Chosen One’s” best performances during his championship reign. In September of 2018, Woodley faced Darren Till in the main event of UFC 228. Coming into the title fight, “The Chosen One” already had two title defenses under his belt, and was looking for his third against a man who had won four straight and was considered one of his biggest threats.

The first round saw Woodley try to execute a couple of takedown on the much larger for, but for whatever reason referee Dan Miragliotta wouldn’t let them work while i n the clinch, as he was quick to go in and call for separation.

In the opening seconds of round two, however, Woodley tried a different approach, taking down his opponent via a perfectly-time counter straight right that dropped “The Gorilla.” The champ then pounced on his wounded foe by landing one huge elbow after another from guard. After punishing Till for nearly four minutes on the ground, Woodley went on to sink in a fight-ending d’arce choke with 42 seconds remaining in the title fight.

Woodley would go on to drop his title in his following fight to Kamaru Usman at UFC 235. He returned a year later only to lose to Gilbert Burns at UFC on ESPN 9, giving him his first two-fight losing streak of his career. Now, he will look to turn it around against a man who he deeply despises in Colby Covington.
