Condit Calling For Diaz Do-Over

When Carlos Condit and Nick Diaz first went to war in the UFC 143 main event way back in early 2012, “The Natural Born Killer” was ranked No. 4 in the division against No. 2 for the ex-Strikeforce champ, so their battle for the interim welterweight title made sense.

It still does, but for the opposite reasons.

Condit has now lost five straight while Diaz hasn’t competed in over five years and remains winless since late 2011. Not surprisingly, neither combatant is ranked in the division Top 15 and we still don’t know if (or when) Diaz will make his Octagon return.

“I know a lot of people want to see that fight,” Condit told reporters at the UFC Fight Island 4 media day (via MMA Junkie). “I want to see that fight. I think Nick wants that fight. I don’t know if it’s the next one or what he’s trying to do. But if the stars align, that fight should happen. That fight is intriguing to me, intriguing to a lot of fans. If I go out there and handle business like I think will on Saturday, that one is definitely in my sight. It’s an interesting matchup, there was controversy, and why not? Why not go out there and settle the score?”

Condit, 36, can’t worry about settling anything until he first gets past grizzled welterweight veteran and The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 11 champ Court McGee at the UFC Fight Island 4 event this Sat. night (Oct. 3, 2020) inside Flash Forum on “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi.

More on that upcoming showdown here.

I don’t want to speak for the rest of the MMA fan base but if Diaz does find his way back to the Octagon, I’m not sure I want to waste his return bout on Condit. Their first go-round wasn’t that exciting to me (blame Condit’s gameplan) and a rematch doesn’t mean anything in terms of the division.
