Jack Della: It’s a matter of time before I compete with the best in the world

It seems Jack Della definitely has his sights set on the big stage.

The Aussie prospect is the current welterweight champion of his home nation’s Eternal MMA and has won his past eight in a row, all via stoppage. He defends his title this Saturday in a rematch against Aldin Bates at Eternal MMA 53, which airs live on UFC Fight Pass from Perth.

For Della (8-2), he knows he’s on the cusp of breaking through to one of the larger MMA organizations and hopes to get on the UFC’s radar with an impressive showing against Bates (6-2).

“Yeah absolutely, definitely,” Della told MMA Junkie. “I want to just compete at the highest level I possibly can; it’s definitely on the radar. I try not to look too far ahead of anything like that because I think it just comes down to performing. If I can just keep performing, I’ve got a pretty good team behind me in the management aspect – If I’m able to keep performing, it’s just a matter of time before I get to compete with the best in the world.”

At Saturday’s event, Della takes on the man who handed him a loss in his professional debut. Now, more than four years later, Della will get the opportunity to avenge that loss.

“It’s definitely exciting because I’m a competitive person,” Della said. “It’s good to be able to get in there with someone that’s beaten me. It’s also nice to be able to see the progression and how much I’ve improved which is exciting, but at the end of the day it is a fight and you’ve just got to be prepared always, so I wouldn’t necessarily say I’m any more prepared for this fight than any other fight, it’s pretty much the same, but obviously there’s that little edge where I want to get it back.”

Della, who since that loss to Bates has gone 8-1, said he expects another finish on his resume and doesn’t see the fight lasting too long.

“I think it’s going to be a fast fight,” Della said. “I think it’s going to be done in the first round. Maybe it might scratch into the second round, but I think at the most I think it will get halfway into the second round.”
