Islam Makhachev reveals staph infection forced him to withdraw from UFC Fight Night 182 headliner
The same illness that caused Umar Nurmagomedov to withdraw from his UFC debut has hit another member of the team.
On Monday morning, Islam Makhachev took to Instagram to reveal that he picked up a staph infection during his weight cut, forcing him to pull out of Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 182 main event against Rafael dos Anjos.
Makhachev (18-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC), 29, hasn’t competed since last September, when he defeated Davi Ramos via unanimous decision at UFC 242.
Currently riding a six-fight winning streak, Makhachev was set for the biggest fight of his career against former UFC lightweight champion dos Anjos, but his 2020 took another hit when he was hit with his third fight cancellation of the year.
