UFC free fight: Alex Perez stops Jussier Formiga with brutal calf kicks

Over the summer, Alex Perez proved once again that he’s a threat on the feet.

The UFC flyweight contender stopped veteran Jussier Formiga in the first round of their UFC 250 contest.

Perez (24-5 MMA, 6-1 UFC) scored a technical knockout finish using calf kicks – a winning method not often seen in MMA. Formiga, who’s been a contender for many years, was unstable after absorbing multiple leg kicks until he ultimately collapsed in pain.

The win over Formiga put Perez on a three-fight winning streak, which was enough to put him on the short list for a title shot, as he now challenges flyweight champ Deiveson Figueiredo in the main event of UFC 255 on Nov. 21.

Perez was originally scheduled to fight fellow contender Brandon Moreno on that same card, but after Cody Garbrandt was forced to withdraw from the title fight due to injury, Perez got the call to step up into the title fight on short notice.
