Flyweight elites get the spotlight at UFC 255 this Saturday (Nov. 21, 2020) when Deiveson Figueiredo and Valentina Shevchenko defend their respective titles against dangerous challengers Alex Perez and Jennifer Maia, respectively. Up at Welterweight, Mike Perry looks to make it two straight against Muay Thai ace Tim Means, while Cynthia Calvillo and Katlyn Chookagian battle it out for a potential crack at the co-main event winner.

What Went Wrong at UFC Vegas 14?

Man, I was cranky as hell when they robbed Kay Hansen, but even if it wasn’t the gangbusters evening it should have been, we still came out alright. Kanako Murata, Tony Gravely, Ashley Yoder and Rafael dos Anjos all powered their way to decision wins, making for a moderate profit.

UFC 255 Odds For The Undercard:

Brandon Moreno (-190) vs. Brandon Royval (+165)
Joaquin Buckley (-255) vs. Jordan Wright (+215)
Antonina Shevchenko (-155) vs. Ariane Lipski (+135)
Kyle Daukaus (-310) vs. Dustin Stoltzfus (+255)
Alan Jouban (-145) vs. Jared Gooden (+125)
Louis Cosce (-410) vs. Sasha Palatnikov (+330)
Daniel Rodriguez (-320) vs. Nicolas Dalby (+260)

Thoughts: After years of underestimating Brandon Moreno, I think it’s time to finally put my faith in him.

While both Moreno and late-notice foe Brandon Royval excel in high-paced scrambles, Moreno’s ground game is far more battle-tested. We’ve seen “The Assassin Baby” hold his own against grappling experts like Jussier Formiga and Askar Askarov, while Royval failed to out-maneuver Casey Kenney on the ground. Moreno’s wrestling and submission defense are more than enough to keep him afloat against Royval in a grappling match, and he’s got a huge edge on the feet.

In short, bank on the Mexican young gun to secure the next Flyweight title shot.

On the underdog side, Ariane Lipski is pretty damn tempting. She and Antonina Shevchenko have both underperformed in the Octagon, but Lipski remains the harder hitter of the two and has shown a smidge of takedown prowess in the past, which should be sufficient to overwhelm Shevchenko’s nonexistent ground game. Just don’t invest too much in “The Violence Queen;” in fact, a parlay with Louis Cosce should bump those odds up to the point where a minor play still pays dividends.

Alan Jouban looks like a decent play, too. He’s been out for a while and fell short against the division’s upper echelon, sure, but he’s a heavy hitter going up against a guy with serious defensive issues. I just wish he would have stayed at -105 (where he opened).

UFC 255 Odds For The Main Card:

Deiveson Figueiredo (-320) vs. Alex Perez (+260)
Valentina Shevchenko (-1300) vs. Jennifer Maia (+850)
Mike Perry (-145) vs. Tim Means (+125)
Cynthia Calvillo (-260) vs. Katlyn Chookagian (+220)
Paul Craig (-165) vs. Mauricio Rua (+145)

Thoughts: Figueiredo is the only appealing option here. That’s because Perez’s style is extremely similar to that of Joseph Benavidez, which Figueiredo rather thoroughly dismantled twice in a row. Perez’s wrestling doesn’t look sufficient to drag the Brazilian “God of War” to the ground with any regularity, and Figueiredo’s sledgehammer punches make him far and away the more dangerous of the two on the feet. The only real threat to the champion is Perez’s newfound skill with calf kicks, and one or two big counters should be sufficient to dissuade him from throwing very many. In the end, Figueiredo retains in dominant fashion.

UFC 255 Best Bets:

  • Parlay — Brandon Moreno and Alan Jouban: Bet $60 to make $94.80
  • Parlay — Louis Cosce and Ariane Lipski: Bet $40 to make $76.80
  • Parlay — Brandon Moreno and Deiveson Figueiredo: Bet $50 to make $50
