Henry Cejudo includes Demetrious Johnson in his MMA Mount Rushmore

Henry Cejudo may boast a lot of gold, but he surprisingly doesn’t include himself in his personal MMA Mount Rushmore.

Cejudo (16-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC), the former UFC bantamweight and flyweight champion and Olympic wrestling gold medalist, is always happy to flaunt his accolades, but when speaking of MMA’s most accomplished fighters, he didn’t hesitate to include a former foe.

“I’m not even part of the GOAT mountain to be quite honest with you, Cejudo said in an interview with Helen Yee. “but even when it comes to combat sports, he’s a part of that mountain. But in my take, it’s Demetrious Johnson, Jon Jones, Anderson Silva and (Georges St-Pierre) … and I would put GSP No. 4.”

Cejudo was stopped in less than three minutes in his first meeting with Johnson in 2016, but two years later, he was able to avenge his loss and dethrone the long-reigning flyweight king at UFC 227.

He would go on to defend his flyweight title against T.J. Dillashaw, then when Dillashaw was stripped of his bantamweight title due to testing positive for EPO, Cejudo captured the vacant 135-pound title by stopping Marlon Moraes at UFC 238. As a result, “Triple C” was born, the moniker Cejudo holds for claiming two UFC belts as well as his renowned Olympic medal.

Cejudo announced his retirement in May after defending his bantamweight title against another former champ in Dominick Cruz, but appears to be seeking even more gold by calling out featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski, a bout he feels would be worth the return.

So while Cejudo may not include himself as an MMA legend just yet, he has a completely different list when it comes to the Mount Rushmore of combat sports in general.

“I’m not part of the GOAT mountain when it comes to the sport of mixed martial arts, but I will say this, in the GOAT mountain of combat sports, I remain No. 1,” Cejudo said. “Then I would put Khabib (Nurmagomedov) with me, I would put Daniel Cormier with me, and I would put Fabricio Werdum because these are the people that have done something in combat sports and that’s it.”
