Edwards Reacts To Cancelation Of Chimaev Fight

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight contender Leon Edwards, currently ranked No. 3 at 170 pounds, has been infected with coronavirus and pulled from his Khamzat Chimaev fight at UFC Vegas 17 later this month in “Sin City.”

The cancelation marks the second time this year that COVID-19 has delayed his march toward the division title. “Rocky” was previously forced to bail on his Tyron Woodley fight after quarantine restrictions kept him grounded across the pond.

“Another setback, but when you come from the mud you learn to put everything in perspective,” Edwards wrote on Twitter. “This virus has affected many lives and families much worse than mine. Looking forward to getting this rebooked soon, thank you all for the well wishes.”

Edwards (18-3) has not competed since capturing a unanimous decision nod over Raphael dos Anjos back in summer 2019. The victory marked his eighth straight win under the UFC banner and put him onto a very short list of legitimate title contenders.

The current goal is to have “Rocky” fight Chimaev at some point in early 2021; however, the promotion has yet to make those plans official. Until then, all we can do is wait for Edwards to heal up and get back into fighting shape.
