Jack Hermansson reports toe, facial break after UFC on ESPN 19 loss

Jack Hermansson’s loss to Marvin Vettori in the UFC on ESPN 19 main event came with a price.

Hermansson (21-6 MMA, 8-4 UFC) suffered a unanimous decision loss to Vettori (16-4-1 MMA, 6-2-1 UFC) in Saturday’s headliner at UFC Apex in Las Vegas. It was a historic contest, with the pair setting a new single-fight middleweight record for most combined significant strikes landed at 286 total.

It was obvious at the conclusion of the bout that Hermansson was hurting. He limped around the octagon, in addition to wearing it on his face. Following a trip to the hospital, Hermansson reported back that he’d suffered a broken toe and shattered eye-socket.

Hermansson provided an update on his condition from his hospital bed not long after the fight (via Instagram):

Broken toe and broken eye-socket but not a broken spirit. The goal remains the same

Hermansson didn’t get the job done at UFC on ESPN 19, but as he said in his statement, his spirit is not broken. He went through a lot in the lead up to the event, with his opponent changing from Darren Till to Kevin Holland and finally Vettori in the weeks prior.

It’s unknown how long Hermansson’s injuries will keep him out of action, but he will certainly be keen to mix it up with another top 185-pound fighter in his return.
