Canelo: I’ll KO Golovkin If Trilogy Fight Happens

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin have provided fight fans with two memorable matchups. The first bout ended up in a draw, though Alvarez won the rematch via unanimous decision one year later.

While talks of a trilogy fight have surfaced, nothing ever came of it two years removed from the second fight. But should the two find themselves locked inside the ring one more time, Alvarez says he will knockout “GGG” to put an emphatic end to their rivalry.

“I don’t have to prove anything to anyone, I did my job already by beating him twice and right now, I want to stay at 168, and if (GGG) wants to move up, we’ll see what happens, if that’s what the fans really want. I’m at 168 and I don’t have to do any favors for anyone. I’m at 168 and our goal is to unify here,” Canelo said in an interview with The Ring.

“I feel good right now, I feel strong. I feel like I’m at my peak and I continue working hard. If a fight happens a third time (with GGG), I feel so good that I most likely knock him out and do some serious damage.”

Should Alvarez accomplish that feat he would be the first man to ever knockout Golovkin, who only has one loss (to Canelo) on his otherwise mint career. That being said, in their first two bouts Golovkin ate several hard shots from Canelo which have knocked out many fighters before him, so his chin has proven to be very solid.

Alvarez is fresh off a win over Callum Smith last December and is firmly expected to make a quick turnaround to face Avini Yildirim (21-2-0) in February in Guadalajara, Mexico before making another potential quick turnaround in May.

Anyone care to see a third fight between these two legends?
