Lewis Still Wants Overeem After UFC Vegas 19 Win

Derrick Lewis wasted no time calling out Alistair Overeem (again) after his knockout win over Curtis Blaydes last night (Sat., Feb. 20, 2021) at UFC Vegas 19 in Las Vegas (results HERE).

Lewis, who came into his main event clash with “Razor” as a large underdog, fell behind early as Blaydes launched heavy leg attacks. “Black Beast” kept his composure and leveled Blaydes with a perfectly-timed uppercut in the second round to claim the knockout finish.

The win puts Lewis in a great position for 2021 as he tries to earn his first UFC title shot, but “Black Beast” also has his sights set on a matchup with Overeem. Lewis called the veteran contender out during a post-fight interview backstage.

“I want Overeem next,” Lewis said. “I’m already greased and oiled up for him. Yeah.”

Lewis, who turned 36 two weeks ago, feels ready to jump back into the Octagon after a fairly quick performance against Blaydes. In fact, “Black Beast” is ready to throw down with Overeem as soon as the veteran recovers from his recent TKO loss to Alexander Volkov (watch it HERE).

“As soon as possible. As soon as he passes concussion protocol,” said Lewis at the post-fight press conference (replay HERE). “But I would like a three round fight just because I don’t want five rounds.”

Lewis and Overeem share some history after “The Reem” criticized Lewis for his “hot balls” humor back in 2018. The two heavyweights have been on a collision course ever since, but Lewis says he carries no ill-will towards the legendary Overeem. He also doesn’t care that the 40-year-old veteran has lost two out of his last four fights.

“I don’t care he had a couple of losses in a row. It’ll be cool just to fight him because he’s a so-called legend so it would be cool to fight somebody like that.

“Also he’s been talking trash saying that his teammate Curtis could handle this lightweight and stuff like that. We’ve been trying to fight him for years and he turned down the fight four times already.

“He might take it. He’s been hit in the head a couple of times so he might forget all about what happened tonight. So he’ll probably take it.”

What do you think, fight fans? Should UFC book Lewis vs. Overeem or are bigger things in store for “Black Beast?”
