Wrecked Wrist Could Bench ‘Beast’ For Six Months

UFC Vegas 19 injuries and medical suspensions were submitted to MixedMartialArts.com earlier this week for those athletes competing at the “Blaydes vs. Lewis” event last weekend (Sat., Feb. 20, 2021) from inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas.

Not surprisingly, a fair share of combatants were handed mandatory timeouts, including heavyweight headliner Derrick Lewis. “The Black Beast” could be looking at a potential six-month suspension for injuries suffered in his victory over Curtis Blaydes.

“Razor” will find himself out of action for 60 days.

The full list of UFC Vegas 19 medical suspensions (courtesy of MMA Junkie) includes:

Derrick Lewis: Needs X-ray of right hand and wrist, and clearance by doctor, otherwise suspended 180 days; minimum suspension is 21 days with 14 days no contact.
Curtis Blaydes: Suspended 60 days with 45 days no contact.
Ketlen Vieira: Suspended 45 days with 30 days no contact due to forehead laceration.
Darrick Minner: Suspended 21 days with 14 days no contact.
Charles Rosa: Needs X-ray of right hand, and clearance by doctor, or suspended 180 days; minimum suspension is 45 days with 30 days no contact due to forehead laceration.
Chris Daukaus: Needs X-ray of right hand, and clearance by doctor, otherwise suspended 180 days
Aleksei Oleinik: Suspended 45 days with 30 days no contact.
Phil Hawes: Suspended 30 days with 21 days no contact due to left eyebrow and right cheek lacerations.
Nassourdine Imamov: Suspended 30 days with 21 days no contact.
Tom Aspinall: Suspended 30 days with 21 days no contact.
Andrei Arlovski: Needs X-ray of right foot, and clearance by doctor, otherwise suspended 180 days; minimum suspension is 45 days with 30 days no contact.
Jared Gordon: Suspended 30 days with 21 days no contact.
Danny Chavez: Needs X-ray of right foot, and clearance by doctor, otherwise suspended 180 days; minimum suspension is 45 days with 30 days no contact
John Castaneda: Needs X-ray of right hand, and clearance by doctor, otherwise suspended 180 days; minimum suspension is 21 days with 14 days no contact.
Eddie Wineland: Suspended 45 days with 30 days no contact due to left eyebrow and nose lacerations.
Nate Landwehr: Needs X-ray of nose, and clearance by doctor, otherwise suspended 180 days; minimum suspension is 45 days with 30 days no contact.
Casey O’Neill: Suspended 30 days with 21 days no contact.
Shana Dobson: Needs left eye cleared by doctor, otherwise suspended 180 days; minimum suspension is 45 days with 30 days no contact due to blurry vision.
Jamall Emmers: Needs MRI of lumbar, and clearance by doctor, otherwise suspended 180 days; minimum suspension is 21 days with 14 days no contact due to back spasms.
Drako Rodriguez: Suspended 60 days with 45 days no contact.
Serghei Spivac: Suspended 21 days with 14 days no contact.
Jared Vanderaa: Needs doctor clearance for nasal bone fracture, otherwise suspended 180 days; minimum suspension is 45 days with 30 days no contact due to eyebrow laceration.

Yana Kunitskaya, Julian Erosa, and Aiemann Zahabi escaped UFC Vegas 19 without suspension.

Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases. In addition, not all injuries are recorded during the post-fight examination and often times surface in follow-up tests.
