‘El Cucuy’ and ‘The Choir Boy’: Tony Ferguson links up with legendary boxing coach Freddie Roach

Tony Ferguson has enlisted the services of a legend as he looks to make further advancements in his game.

The former UFC interim lightweight champion is currently looking to bounce back after consecutive defeats to Justin Gaethje and Charles Oliveira, and is sharpening his striking game by working with renowned boxing trainer Freddie Roach.

Roach, who fought under the nickname “The Choir Boy,” posted an image to Twitter of him and Ferguson at his Wild Card gym in Los Angeles, with the caption “Great first day, Champ!”

After winning 12 bouts in a row en route to capturing the UFC interim lightweight title, Ferguson has lost back-to-back bouts – a TKO doctor stoppage to Gaethje followed by a unanimous decision to Oliveira.

But the 37-year-old insists he still has plenty left in the tank and has joined forces with Roach, who has worked with MMA fighters including former champions Anderson Silva,  B.J. Penn, and Georges Saint-Pierre, who he cornered to middleweight title success against Michael Bisping at UFC 217.

Ferguson, who doesn’t currently have a fight booked, took to Instagram to show his appreciation towards Roach and the work they put together on their first day of training together.
