Sterling Boots McGregor From Pound-For-Pound list

In addition, the ailing Khamzat Chimaev (No. 14) was removed from the welterweight rankings.

Aljamain Sterling is the rightful bantamweight champion because Petr Yan disqualified himself by breaking the rules, throwing what can only be described as a blatantly illegal knee to end their 135-pound contest at UFC 259.

That said, I’m not sure their controversial outcome was enough to elevate “Funk Master” to the list of pound-for-pound greats, but it would appear the rest of the MMA media doesn’t share my outlook based on this week’s updated chart.

Elsewhere in the pound-for-pound rankings, middleweight champion Israel Adesanya tumbled three spots to No. 6 after losing to Jan Blachowicz last Sat. night (March 6) in Las Vegas, while the Polish power puncher improved to No. 8.

Here’s how the rankings are compiled:

Rankings were generated by a voting panel made up of media members. The media members were asked to vote for who they feel are the top fighters in the UFC by weight-class and pound-for-pound. A fighter is only eligible to be voted on if they are in active status in the UFC. A fighter can appear in more than one weight division at a time. The champion and interim champion are considered to be in the top positions of their respective divisions and therefore are not eligible for voting by weight-class. However, the champions can be voted on for the pound-for-pound rankings.

Take a look at what the latest rankings field looks like courtesy of UFC.com. Note: (+/- = movement in rankings, T = tie, *NR = Not previously ranked).

You can expect these rankings to change around this time next week, particularly in the welterweight division, following the UFC Vegas 21: “Edwards vs. Muhammad” event on Sat. night (March 13) from inside APEX facility in Las Vegas, Nevada.
