Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate, who also wore gold under the Strikeforce banner, is hoping to secure a rematch against current 135-pound titleholder Amanda Nunes.

“Lioness” iced “Cupcake” at UFC 200 back in summer 2016.

The first step on her comeback trail begins July 17, where Tate will end a five-year retirement to throw hands with Marion Reneau. A victory over the struggling “Belizean Bruiser” may not warrant an immediate title shot, but it definitely puts Tate in the conversation.

“I’d love to run that one back,” Tate told SiriusXM Fight Nation about rematching Nunes. “I would love to fight her again because I know I have the style to beat her. I’m not at all gonna take anything away from her. She is just a scary woman, and she hits like a man, and I know that. I know everything. I’ve been in there with her, and I’ve seen what she’s done since then, but I know I have the style to beat her, and I know I have desire. I have plans, I have goals, and I know I’m somebody that, when push comes to shove, I make shit happen.”

Nunes (21-4) has amassed an incredible 12-fight win streak that includes eight nasty finishes and two championship titles. Along with Tate, the 32 year-old “Lioness” has steamrolled Ronda Rousey, Holly Holm, and Cris Cyborg, just to name a few.

“Cupcake” turns 35 in August.

Tate (18-7) called it quits after an uninspired performance against Raquel Pennington at UFC 205 in late 2016, when she was coached by then-boyfriend Bryan Caraway. What followed was an executive position with ONE Championship and two babies, along with the desire to make her Octagon return.

Whether or not she can slug her way back to the title remains to be seen.
