Scary weight cuts are nothing new to MMA. But usually, we hear about them after the fact and not right in front of our eyes.

This past Friday, Julija Stoliarenko (9-4-2 MMA, 0-2 UFC) collapsed twice while attempting to get on the scale for her UFC on ESPN 21 fight. Things looked normal at first when Stoliarenko went to the scale. But once on, she fell backward into the step-and-repeat backdrop.

After a few seconds, Stoliarenko actually got back on the scale and made weight. But right after, she fainted a second time and had to be taken out of the weigh-in room on a stretcher. Suffice it to say, her fight against Julia Avila was canceled.

It was one of the scariest MMA weigh-in moments caught on camera in a while, and it quickly brought the question back to the forefront of what can be done to keep fighters from undergoing such drastic weight cuts that it becomes detrimental to their health.

We asked our panel on this week’s episode of “Spinning Back Clique” their thoughts on the issue. Check out the video above to hear Brian “Goze” Garcia, Farah Hannoun, Danny Segura and moderator Simon Head weigh in. You can also watch the complete episode below.
