Conor McGregor sexual assault case dropped; French officials say not enough evidence

Officials from the city of Bastia on the French Island of Corsica have decided to dismiss a sexual assault case against UFC star Conor McGregor, TMZ reported on Wednesday.

In September 2020, McGregor was arrested on allegations of sexual assault and indecent exposure. McGregor was interviewed and released by French officials, and his team subsequently issued a statement and vehemently denied all wrongdoing.

Eight months later, prosecutors have informed McGregor of their decision not to press charges in a letter obtained by TMZ, which was written in French and translated as follows:

“The examination of the present proceedings does not justify any criminal prosecution since:

– “The facts or the circumstances of the facts of the proceedings could not have been clearly established by the investigations.

– “The pieces of evidence are therefore not sufficient for the offense to be constituted and for criminal prosecution to be engaged.”

A McGregor representative said that a criminal investigation by French authorities included a DNA collection, which “confirmed McGregor’s account.

This was one of three allegations of sexual assault McGregor has faced since 2019, the other two coming from his home country of Ireland. This past January during UFC 257 fight week, it was reported that a woman and her mother filed a multimillion dollar lawsuit stemming from an alleged incident at a hotel in December 2018. It’s unclear where things stand with the second sexual assault allegation.

McGregor is set to meet Dustin Poirier on July 10 at UFC 264 in Las Vegas. The UFC announced Wednesday that the event will take place in front of fans at T-Mobile Arena.
