Holyfield Returns, Fights McBride On June 5

Four-time world heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield is making his return to the “sweet science” at the tender age of 58, no doubt an attempt to follow the financial footprint of fellow geriatric pugilist Mike Tyson.

“The Real Deal” retired from boxing after stopping Brian Nielsen in May 2011.

Holyfield (57-10-2, 1 NC) returns on June 5 opposite 47 year-old Kevin McBride (35-10-1), perhaps best known for retiring Tyson back in June 2005. “The Clones Colossus” has not competed in nearly a decade, having dropped six of his last seven.

“I am proud to be able to join Triller Fight Club as they are exactly what our industry needed. They have reimagined the sport of boxing in a very exciting new way,” Holyfield said. “Their combination of young talent, music, entertainment and special matchups is setting a new standard for our sport, and my return to the ring for this fight is one that everyone, myself included, will enjoy, and I am proud to help take this to the next level.”

Holyfield has been trying to finagle a third (and hopefully final) fight with Tyson over the last few months and “Iron” seemed to be on board; however, there was a disagreement with handlers — not uncommon in boxing — that kept the two ex-champs apart.

Tyson out, McBride in.

The location and times for the June 5 fight card will be announced in the coming days.
