Twitter Reacts To Statue Of Barack St-Pierre

Who do you think this newly erected statue of former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre looks like?

The city of Saint-Isidore in Quebec, Canada is paying homage to hometown hero Georges St-Pierre, but it looks a little more like a shoutout to former U.S. President Barack Obama.

UFC Canada shared side-by-side photos of St-Pierre and his new statue on Wednesday, courtesy of photographer Mélanie Crête. GSP is all smiles standing next to the statue; however, fans of the two-division UFC champ wear a more befuddled expression.

Take one look at the replies and you will see several photos comparing GSP’s immortalized face Obama’s.

St-Pierre (26-2) re-retired from MMA after dethroning Michael Bisping as UFC middleweight champion at UFC 217 in November 2017. Arguably the greatest MMA fighter of all-time, the illustrious UFC welterweight champion holds wins over the aforementioned Bisping, Johny Hendricks, Nick Diaz, Carlos Condit, Jake Shields, Josh Koscheck (twice), Dan Hardy, B.J. Penn (twice), Jon Fitch, Matt Serra Matt Hughes (twice), Sean Sherk and Frank Trigg.

A potential Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. St-Pierre match-up often appealed to GSP; however, the dream super-fight never materialized. These days, you can catch St-Pierre in Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+ — a reprisal of his role from Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
