With Demian Maia in corner, Danilo Marques aims to represent BJJ at UFC Fight Night 190

LAS VEGAS – There are no secrets as to what Danilo Marques will try to do against Kennedy Nzechukwu.

Marques (11-2 MMA, 2-0 UFC) brings solid grappling credentials to the octagon again at UFC Fight Night 190 on Saturday when he meets Nzechukwu (8-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) in a light heavyweight bout at the UFC Apex. The card streams on ESPN+.

On paper, it would seem like a no-brainer for Marques to try to take his opponent down and work for the submission, and it appears he has no desire to stray away from the obvious, and that’s why he’ll have UFC legend Demian Maia in his corner.

Ahead of the bout, Marques attended UFC Fight Night 190 media day on Wednesday and discussed his training camp for the fight, Ed Herman’s withdrawal from the original matchup, the solid start to his UFC career, and more.

“Demian Maia in my corner, I have to represent (jiu-jitsu) very well,” Marques told MMA Junkie. “I will do my best. … I waited a long time to get to the UFC, so I think about the moment. When I think so far (ahead), it makes me a little confused. I prefer to think about the moment. That’s my game. That’s better for me.”
