UFC vet John Dodson and family involved in ‘near-death’ car accident

UFC veteran John Dodson is in need of financial assistance after his family was involved in a car wreck on Friday.

According to Dodson’s representative Ricky Kottenstette of Dinami Management, the fighter and his family were involved in a “serious” and “near-death” accident on Friday during a trip from New Mexico to Texas.

Dodson is married and has three children. Kottenstette stated that everyone involved survived the accident, but injuries were sustained. The significance of those injuries are unknown, and the exact circumstances that led to the accident haven’t been revealed.

A GoFundMe.com crowdfunding page has been launched to assist with the fees associated.

We have started this go fund me to help John Dodson and family. The Dodson’s were headed to Texas on vacation to visit family when they were involved in a near death accident with the whole family inside the vehicle. They were all released from the hospital this morning but will have a rough month of recovery and financial hardship ahead. They have totaled their family vehicle and unfortunately John will no longer be able to fight in his upcoming July 30th bout. We are asking for assistance to help them with their medical bills, financial assistance from being out of work and travel back to New Mexico. Let’s show these guys some .

Dodson joined the UFC when he won Season 14 of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series. He fought 17 times with the promotion prior to his final octagon appearance in August 2020, which saw him drop a unanimous decision to Merab Dvalishvili.

The 36-year-old was scheduled to begin his post-UFC tenure on July 30 with a matchup against Cody Gibson at XMMA 2, but as Kottenstette noted, the injuries stemming from the accident have forced his withdrawal.

Kottenstette did not provide a timeline for Dodson’s recovery. MMA Junkie will provide more details as they become available.
