Tyson Fury Catches COVID-19, New Date For Wilder fight

The Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder boxing match has been postponed after Fury tested positive for COVID-19.

Fans eagerly awaiting a potential clash between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will have to wait even longer as Fury vs. Deontay Wilder 3 has been postponed after Fury contracted COVID-19.

The Fury vs. Wilder trilogy fight was originally scheduled for Sat., July 24 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV via Fox and ESPN+ pay-per-view (PPV). Multiple people in Fury’s camp tested positive for COVID-19, including the heavyweight champion himself, according to boxing reporter Dan Rafael.

Rafael reported that was partly vaccinated for COVID-19; however, “The Gyspy King” did not get the second vaccine dose.

“Per source, Tyson Fury was one of the people in his camp who tested positive for COVID-19 and the fight with Wilder is postponed,” Rafael wrote on Thursday. “I’ve been told Fury got one vaccine dose but never got the 2nd. At least 3 others in camp also positive.”

Sources told ESPN that Fury vs. Wilder 3 is expected to be rescheduled for Oct. 9 at the T-Mobile Arena, considering that Manny Pacquiao-Errol Spence Jr. is set for Aug. 21 and Canelo Alvarez will fight in mid-September.

Fury and Wilder fought to a split draw for the WBC heavyweight title on Dec. 1, 2018. They fought again on Feb. 22, 2020 with Fury winning via seventh-round TKO to capture the WBC and vacant The Ring heavyweight titles.
