Rani Yahya admits he ‘definitely thought about’ retirement ahead of UFC on ESPN 28

Rani Yahya admits he’s thought about the end going into his 40th professional fight on Saturday at UFC on ESPN 28.

Yahya (27-10-1 MMA, 12-4-1 UFC), now 36, doesn’t know how much time he has left in the fight game going into his bantamweight bout with Kyung Ho Kang (17-8 MMA, 6-2 UFC) on the ESPN-televised card at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

If Yahya had to walk away tomorrow, he said he would be satisfied with his achievements, which currently include the most submissions in 135-pound history. The Brazilian is currently taking it all one fight at a time and will reevaluate after each one.

“I thought about (retirement) – definitely thought about it,” Yahya told reporters, including MMA Junkie, at Thursday’s UFC on ESPN 28 media day. “I have nothing to prove. I’ve achieved pretty big numbers in my career. I’m still here. I’m still evolving, I’m still motivated to do this and I want to reach my highest level. The highest level as possible. That is my main goal.”
