After coming up short in playoffs, Emiliano Sordi eyes Chris Camozzi rematch at PFL final

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Emiliano Sordi still wants to fight in the 2021 PFL final despite getting eliminated from the season.

The 2019 PFL light heavyweight champion is looking to clock in one more fight this year, even if it’s not for the belt and the $1 million prize. Sordi was eliminated at Friday’s 2021 PFL Playoffs 3 after losing a unanimous decision to former UFC fighter Antonio Carlos Junior.

The 2021 PFL Playoffs 3 took place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The main card aired on ESPN2 and ESPN+ with the prelims exclusively on ESPN+.

Sordi wants to compete on Oct. 27 and wouldn’t mind sharing the cage with former foe Chris Camozzi, who was victorious over Cory Hendricks on Friday night.

“I’m going to ask for a fight in the final,” Sordi told MMA Junkie in Spanish. “I’m still on the path. I don’t want to slow down in the training, so I’m hoping I get a fight in the final.

“It’s possible that we do the rematch with Chris Camozzi. I think it would be a good fight, plus the first one was a show as well, even though I didn’t enter in with good condition. Now that I’m in better condition, I’d like to keep training and fight again this year. That would be very good.”

As far as the bout against Carlos Junior, the Argentine fighter feels he should’ve advanced to the final. Sordi was confident he had done enough to win the bout.

“It was close and tough fight, but we were confident we had won the first two rounds,” Sordi explained. “The third we knew he had won it. My trainer and I thought we had won the fight. One judge scored it 30-27 for him, I don’t know how, but this is part of the game. Nothing like this had ever happened to me before and I know it’s part of the sport and it’s happened to other fighters too. Unfortunately, we have to get used to these things.”
